A Few More From Singapore and Penang

I have a few more photos from my travels to Singapore and Malaysia that I like and want to share.

Singapore Flower Dome

In Singapore, near the Supertree Grove, there is a Flower Dome and a Cloud Forest enclosed garden space. I spent some time going through the flower dome. Below is a picture walking along the flower dome from the outside. I attempted to get the converging angles of the structure and windows merging in the distance. Sort of an abstract that I am really not very good at.

In the dome there were a variety of plants from locations all over the world which were interesting to see, but not so much to photograph. There was, however, a large dragon sculpted from vines that I really like. I thought that it was really well done and stood out and I like this picture that I took of it. It even looks good against the overcast sky above.

George Town, Penang

In Penang, I stayed in the Gurney area and had a chance to walk around a bit. I saw some decorative lights hanging in all the trees in one area, so I returned at sunset to see if the lights were active as I thought that it might make a good time lapsed photo. There were no lights and it was very cloudy and threatening rain.

I did like this scene, with the lit sidewalk going toward the beach and all of the boats in the water giving it a warm/cool contrast and a leading line into the scene.

The problem with this image is that there was that there was not enough light left in the sky and the lit walkway dominates the image. 15 minutes earlier and this might have been a much better picture. It was already raining when I took this, so I was in a bit of a hurry to get packed up and head back to the hotel.

The next morning I was up early and saw that the sky had cleared, so I went down to a hotel platform that I had scoped out the day before. I then had to wait for my lens to acclimate to the outside temperature and the fogging to dissipate. But the sky was nice, there was warm dawn sun on the buildings, the tide was in so there are reflections in the water, and you can even see across the straight to the mountains on the mainland.

In hindsight, I might have put an ND filter on the lens and tried a long exposure to get some cloud blur. But for some reason I did not put a filter in my travel bag. I think I still got a nice image though.

I invite you to tell me what you think in the comments. Thanks.

    1. Thanks for looking at my old posts. I did like the contrasting yellow and blue in that scene. I think that was at about halloween and they really don’t do halloween in Penang like we do. I remember sitting in an open air bar and watching a woman sing (I couldn’t understand her) but there was a ridiculous special on Guinness beer and I was walking, so….

      1. You are welcome! I enjoyed them.
LOL about the special on Guinness beer. You gotta take advantage of specials right? Though a special on wine would have been better! 🙂
There is something special about music ,even when you can’t understand the words.
