Just some Geese

Just went to the fish hatchery to shoot photos of birds. Usually plenty of geese and ducks around. The Canada Geese are more tolerant of a photographer than most of the ducks, so they get to be the stars of the photoshoot.

I don’t have a lot of interesting photographic techniques to talk about here, but in this case the geese were on top of the levee around a fish pond which put them at about eye level to me, so it was easy to get eye-level photos without having to crouch way down in the grass.

A train of goslings following their parent I suppose. Hope it isn’t too cute for you.

And a hummingbird with the feeder removed in photoshop. Took this at the Inks Lake State Park bird blind up the road from the fish hatchery.

Hope you enjoyed the photos.

  1. Who doesn’t like ducklings and goslings? I’d be hard pressed to choose between the two photos showing the youngsters. I like the capture of the open-billed little one practicing its honking, but that line of them is equally fun.

  2. Did you have a good conversation with the geese while being eye level with them?
Too much cuteness? Is there such a thing? LOL!
The third picture, especially, looks like a picture that could be in a children’s book. The little goslings are off on an adventure.
Great shot of the hummingbird, too.

            1. We will have to see .. I would say, going by the fine looks of Mr Goose, he is probably innocent. After all, he isn’t a Duck. Isn’t it ducks that cause you trouble?

  3. Excellent photos! They’re about as professional as I’ve ever seen. I love them all, but the first one is the best, in my view. That goose looks like he’s about to do what gooses do best. And that is, goose someone.

  4. They are fabulous bird photos. I like every single one. I’m just learning Photoshop, I started this week. It’s challenging but I did manage to take a Harris’s Hawk with wings outstretched off a rooftop so he’s in the sky.

  5. Goslings are soooooo cute! And sometimes it’s the actin or interaction of the species that is the story. And capturing that is the technique. Impressed yu got the hummingbird. I have problems follow focusing on them.
