Haven’t had a lot to post lately as I have been doing a lot of non-photography related things. But anyway, here are some butterflies from my backyard.

In the middle of summer, I impulse-bought a bag of wildflower seed to throw in my large planter by the back fence. Didn’t know what to expect, but by mid-October I had several large blooming flower plants that soon got the attention of the local butterfly population. So, it was worth the $4 or $5 I spent on the seeds.

I probably should have used a polarizer on the photo above to knock down the glare on the flower petals, but it didn’t occur to me at the time.
There are a lot of other colored flowers besides the bright orange flowers, but the butterflies really seem to prefer these. Below is my favorite photo.

This post brought a smile! You can’t go wrong with flowers and butterflies. I would love having butterflies fly around my backyard. The last photo is my favorite, too.The butterfly and flower stand out in such a vivid way amidst the blur in the background.

Nice and beautifully focussed. Are those Monarch butterflies?

I’m afraid I don’t know butterfly species well enough to tell

WP isn’t allowing me to comment on your post without entering my password. So I’m trying this workaround.

Then it should be called WeirdPress.

You might want to trademark that idea

Good idea. I think I’m specially qualified to make it work.

The only time WP asks me for my password is if I am on the computer. When using the app on my phone, it doesn’t. Though I probably jinxed myself now.

That must be the computer you use for hacking into top secret facilities. They’re onto you.

Ooh how did you guess?! Just which top secret facilities do you think I would be hacking into?

Probably the Starbucks recipe database.

I rarely go to Starbucks!

So, you’ve cut down to two or three times a week, to save poor Brad some money?

Honestly, I can’t remember the last time I was at Starbucks, doolally!

That’s coffee for you. It poisons your brain and affects your memory.

I don’t remember that ever being a problem for me

I would, but you stole all the crayons and ate all the ice cream.

The workaround appears to have worked. So, as I was saying . . . I like the bottom photo best, too. I wonder if the butterflies are attracted to the orange flowers because they blend in well with the color of their wings.

That may be as it is camouflaging

I’ve been watching the migrating monarchs for a couple of weeks, and I just saw a Texas Parks & Wildlife video of masses of them at Enchanted Rock: like, thousands! This is a great portrait of an individual.

They seem to be gone now. For about a week I had dozens of them back there at any given time.

They are on their way to Mexico. My sister gets to watch several of them emerge from their cocoons each year and fly away from her backyard.

Gorgeous! I’m happy to hear that you’re getting your money’s worth from the seeds.
